About the Role

We’re hiring a seasoned Android engineer to build XOXO’s consumer app with a groundbreaking interface for intelligence. This role is for a truly strong engineer who can own the full mobile surface area end-to-end: architecture, performance, polish, and a highly visual design system that feels intentional in every interaction.

You don’t need a specific background—what matters is your drive: you’re relentlessly high-ownership, you move fast without cutting corners, and you want to build a mobile product that sets a new bar for craft and performance.

What You’ll Do

Design and ship the first versions of our React Native app, taking it from prototype to production.
Translate a highly visual design system into reusable components, motion, and interaction patterns with fluid performance.
Build new product surfaces that incorporate modern AI/ML capabilities in ways that feel natural on mobile.
Drive performance work across the app: rendering, startup, memory, battery, networking, and perceived speed.
Set the bar for mobile engineering quality (testing, instrumentation, release discipline) and partner closely across the stack to ship end-to-end.

Skills and Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

3+ years shipping production mobile apps with a consistently elite quality bar.
Deep expertise in React Native and Swift, with strong instincts for architecture and long-term maintainability.
Demonstrated ability to turn a highly visual design system into a fast, pixel-perfect product UI (components, interaction patterns, accessibility).
Proven track record making mobile apps feel instant under real-world constraints (startup time, rendering, memory, battery, networking) and knowing where to look when things slow down.
High-ownership builder who moves quickly without sacrificing code quality, reliability, or craft.
Excited to work in-office in San Francisco 5 days a week.

Preferred qualifications — we encourage you to apply if you meet some but not all of these:

Experience at an early-stage startup (company outcome doesn’t matter).
Experience shipping in high-velocity consumer categories with rapid growth (consumer social, gaming, other consumer apps).
Comfort bridging into native iOS/Android when React Native needs it.
Experience integrating ML/AI-powered functionality into mobile product experiences.
Advanced mobile media/graphics experience (3D, real-time rendering, audio, video, streaming).

Logistics

Location: San Francisco, CA (on-site)
Compensation: $250k-$500k expected salary with 1% to 5% equity depending on background.
